Zoo Has Euthanized Ailing Albino Gorilla
From Times Wire Reports
SPAIN
Snowflake, an extremely rare albino gorilla and the most popular resident of Barcelona Zoo, has been euthanized because of skin cancer he had since 2001, zoo officials said.
They said the gorilla’s health deteriorated recently and he showed signs of pain. Snowflake, or Copito de Nieve in Spanish, was thought to be between 38 and 40 years old. The average lifespan in the wild is 25. In his 37 years at the zoo, he fathered 22 offspring, none albino, with three different females.
