HEISMAN WATCH

THE HYPE

Jammal Lord, QB, Nebraska

Sound familiar? A Cornhusker team off to an unbeaten start is led by a do-run-run-run quarterback with a wing-and-a-prayer passing arm. Eric Crouch fit this description and won the Heisman Trophy two seasons ago, and Lord probably has the Cornhusker nation singing “Hallelujah we just love our quarterback so” after rushing for 72 yards and two touchdowns and getting 135 yards on seven-for-12 passing in Nebraska’s 30-0 victory over Troy State.

THE TYPE

Marion Barber III, RB, Minnesota

Barber not only leads the nation in Roman numerals, but in touchdowns as well, scoring two more in the Golden Gophers’ 42-17 victory over Northwestern to raise his season total to 13. Barber’s Heisman credentials would be even more glowing if he didn’t have to share rushing opportunities with the player who is second in the nation in Roman numerals, Terry Jackson II.
