UCLA tight end Keith Carter suffered another setback Thursday after months of rehabilitation following an April motorcycle accident. His right hip hasn’t recovered as well as he’d hoped and the redshirt sophomore will not play this season.

Bruin Coach Karl Dorrell said results of a CT scan taken Wednesday showed a diminished blood flow in the area and that Carter would need more surgery to correct that. He had surgery on the dislocated hip after the accident.

“He’s going to need another procedure, hopefully to stimulate some more growth in that area,” Dorrell said. “This will give him an opportunity to get back and get ready to go, possibly next year.”

Carter was activated in early October but has not played this season.

Known for his blocking, Carter started three games last year and had five receptions for 33 yards.

Because Carter has already used his redshirt year, he will have to wait until after his senior year to petition the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility.
