Pope John Paul II met Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and presided over a memorial Mass, easing fears for his health after he skipped his general audience last week.
The pope appeared in relatively good form when he stood with the help of aides to shake Arroyo’s hand.
Later, the 83-year-old Polish pope presided over a memorial Mass for Popes Paul VI and John Paul I.
