Country stars make a movie
Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines makes her acting debut opposite another Texas country star, George Strait, in “Grand Champion,” a family film opening Aug. 27.
Maines, who gave birth to her second child last month, and Strait are joined in the cast by several rodeo performers. The film includes music by Strait, the Dixie Chicks and other Texas country performers, including Willie Nelson and Asleep at the Wheel.
The film focuses on a 12-year-old boy, played by Jacob Fisher, and the steer he raises, sells and then attempts to rescue when he learns about the fate awaiting the animal.
