16 Africans on Boat Die Trying to Reach Europe

At least 16 African migrants died trying to reach Italy in a rickety wooden boat, the nation’s state news agency reported.
A Gibraltan merchant ship rescued 75 African migrants who had been drifting in a 45-foot boat 130 miles off the Italian coast with little food and water.
The migrants from Liberia, the Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone said they left Libya nine days earlier in the hope of a better life in Europe but got lost and 15 died on the journey. Another migrant died shortly after being rescued.
