Not For Long Goes for Golden
Not For Long, who won the Governor’s Cup Derby earlier this year, will try for another Derby win tonight when he takes on nine other 3-year-olds in the $173,200 Golden State Derby.
Owned by Legacy Ranch, Not For Long, a gelded son of First Down Dash, won his trial in 19.72 seconds for the 400 yards in his first race since he won the Governor’s Cup at 7-1 June 15.
Trainer Paul Jones will have four chances to knock off Not For Long. He qualified Metallic Lion, Hugol, Awise Chick and Ocean Cartel.
Metallic Lion has won five of 14 and earned more than $257,000.

Shots in the dark: Ccr Alibis Jet gets jockey Alex Bautista for his debut in the sixth. Red Viper should improve the second time out for trainer Jaime Gomez in the eighth.
