Oklahoma St. Runs Away From Blazers

John Lucas III scored nine of his 18 points during a 14-0 second-half run to lead fifth-ranked Oklahoma State to an 86-73 victory Friday night over Alabama Birmingham at Stillwater, Okla.

The Blazers (4-1) responded with eight consecutive points, all from the free-throw line, but also missed four free throws in two minutes to keep from drawing closer. The Cowboy lead was never in jeopardy thereafter.

Joey Graham scored six consecutive points during an 8-0 run to give the Cowboys (7-0) a 77-58 lead with 6:24 to play.

No. 17 Iowa 70, Iowa State 63 -- Jeff Horner’s free throw with 18.4 seconds left at Iowa City gave the Hawkeyes (8-1) a 67-63 lead. Seconds later, Greg Brunner stole the ball from Will Blalock and made a free throw, clinching the victory over the Cyclones (4-2).

WOMEN

No. 2 Stanford 85, Pepperdine 49 -- The Cardinal played its first game in the newly renovated Maples Pavilion and overwhelmed the Waves (2-7), who suited up only eight players. It was the Waves’ fifth loss in six games.

Stanford (6-0) scored the first 15 points of the second half to finish off a 29-0 run.

In the closing minutes, the crowd started chanting for Jessica Elway, the freshman daughter of former Cardinal great John Elway. She made her first career three-point basket with 4:23 left.

No. 11 Georgia 93, Augusta State 47 -- Freshman Tasha Humphrey had 24 points and 12 rebounds at Athens, Ga., to help the Bulldogs (6-3) rout the Jaguars (6-3).
