Sudan’s government and rebels from its Darfur region suspended faltering peace talks in Nigeria, and the African Union urged both sides to stop fighting to allow negotiations to resume in January.

The breakup of the talks came as British aid agency Save the Children announced that it was pulling all 350 of its staffers out of Darfur after four were killed and clashes in the region were renewed.

The head of Sudan’s delegation said it had accepted in principle proposals to observe an April cease-fire. Rebels had already pledged to observe the much-violated truce.
