Duke Rebounds Against Maryland

J.J. Redick scored 20 points and third-ranked Duke won for the first time in three games, defeating Maryland, 86-63, on Sunday at Durham, N.C.

Shelden Williams had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Duke, which avoided its first three-game losing streak in eight seasons.

The Blue Devils, 22-3 overall and 11-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, overwhelmed the Terrapins (13-10, 4-8), using their pressure defense to trigger transition scores. Duke held Maryland to 37% shooting and scored 31 points off 23 turnovers. The Blue Devils had 16 steals.

“I don’t think there was pressure on us,” said Redick, who made five of nine three-point attempts. “Obviously this was a game that we really needed to win. But it was more just about us. We needed to make a statement today, that Duke is going to be here for the long run.”

John Gilchrist had 14 points for the Terrapins, who lost their third consecutive game.

Michigan 71, No. 12 Wisconsin 59 -- Lester Abram had 17 points at Ann Arbor, Mich., helping the Wolverines (15-8, 6-6 Big Ten) keep their NCAA tournament bid hopes alive with their first victory over a ranked team.

Devin Harris had 18 points on five-for-20 shooting for Wisconsin (17-6, 8-4). The Badgers lost two games in succession for the first time in 13 months.

No. 13 North Carolina State 77, Washington 72 -- Marcus Melvin scored 16 points and the Wolfpack (17-6) held off the Huskies (13-10) at Raleigh, N.C.

North Carolina State improved to 14-0 at home this season.

Bobby Jones scored 22 points for Washington (13-10). The Huskies have lost 24 consecutive games on the road against ranked teams.

No. 15 Wake Forest 80, No. 18 Georgia Tech 76 -- Justin Gray scored 26 points and the Demon Deacons (17-6, 7-5 ACC) beat a Top 25 team for the third consecutive game in holding off the Yellow Jackets (19-7, 6-6) at Atlanta.

Wake Forest stunned Georgia Tech with an early 16-0 run, then withstood a comeback that tied the score at 71-71 with 3 1/2 minutes left.

Wake Forest had previously beaten No. 17 Cincinnati and No. 3 Duke.
