Sting Stops the High-Scoring Storm
The Charlotte Sting held the league’s top offensive team below its average in a 70-67 win over the Seattle Storm on Thursday in front of 5,493 at Charlotte, N.C.
“The East is so crowded, you can’t lose a game or you might fall to last place,” said Tynesha Lewis, whose 19 points helped Charlotte (9-7) pull within a half-game of the Connecticut Sun in the Eastern Conference. “That’s why we had to have this game.”
Lauren Jackson scored 24 points for Seattle (10-6), which averages 73.3 points a game.
Washington 71, New York 54 -- Chamique Holdsclaw had 19 points for the Mystics (8-8) in front of 9,874 at New York. The Liberty (8-10) has lost nine of 11 since opening the season 6-1.
Indiana 58, Minnesota 56 -- Stephanie White made two free throws with 1.3 seconds left to lift the Fever (10-8) in front of 6,112 at Indianapolis. Katie Smith had 18 points for Minnesota (7-9).
