Talavou, Collins Lead South

Fountain Valley High lineman Leo Talavou and Mission Viejo linebacker Jed Collins, both Times’ All-Stars, will lead the South team in the 45th Orange County All-Star football game on Friday night at Santa Ana Stadium.

Talavou, headed to Arizona State, and Collins, who will play for Washington State, will be joined by five Times’ all-region players, including running backs Anthony Matagi of Los Amigos and Cheyne Verhagen of San Clemente. The South will be coached by Rick Curtis of Irvine Northwood.

The North team, coached by Orange’s Greg Gibson, includes five Times’ all-region players: quarterback Daniel Morales of La Habra, tight end Darren Fells of Fullerton, linebacker Brad Wagner of Orange Lutheran, offensive tackle Mike Tepper of Garden Grove Pacifica and offensive lineman Ryan Formento of Villa Park.

Kickoff is 7:15 p.m.

Tickets to the charity game are $9 in advance and available by calling (714) 529-3335. Tickets will be $10 at the box office on game day.

The game will be televised on a tape-delay basis by KDOC at 11 p.m. on Friday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Olga Aulet-Leon of Rolling Hills Estates Peninsula High, winner of the girls’ 1,600 meters in the Southern Section Masters Meet, has signed with UCLA.

Aulet-Leon has bests of 4 minutes 54.70 seconds in the 1,600 and 10:43.23 in the 3,200.
