City Declares Oldest School a Landmark
Thousand Oaks officials have voted to give landmark status to the oldest school building in the city, the current home of Conejo Valley High School.
The City Council, sitting as the Cultural Heritage Board, decided this week that the 80-year-old former two-classroom building once known as Timber School and an adjacent auditorium built in 1948 have historic merit.
The original one-story, Mission Revival building at Newbury and Kelly roads was designed by the first licensed architect in Ventura County.
The city also agreed to consider buying the site from the Conejo Valley Unified School District and promised the district would not lose money because of the historic designation or future reuse of the buildings.
