Scottish rocker wins libel case
Scottish rock singer Bobby Gillespie and his girlfriend received undisclosed libel damages from a British newspaper that wrongly reported the singer was having an affair with supermodel Kate Moss.
Solicitor Gerard Tyrrel told London’s High Court this week that a News of the World article left readers with a “false and unfounded impression” that the Primal Scream singer was betraying his long-term girlfriend, stylist Katie England.
The article appeared in the newspaper in January, indicating Gillespie had split with England and was being comforted by Moss. Tyrrel told the court that Gillespie and England were “happily engaged and living together” and have a 2-year-old son.
Representatives from the News of the World acknowledged in court that the article was incorrect and said they had apologized unconditionally to the couple and agreed to pay damages and legal costs.
