5 Drown in Subterranean Lake
From Times Wire Reports
A catamaran filled with tourists overturned on Europe’s largest underground lake, drowning five people after the boat’s railings formed a cage on the floor of the shallow lake, officials said.
The accident took place toward the end of a 45-minute tour of the Hinterbruehl grotto, a popular cave featuring a vast subterranean lake. Twenty-seven passengers and crew members were aboard when it suddenly tipped over, authorities said. Most waded to safety.
