O’Neals’ game plan: Sell house

Shaquille O’Neal, who has expressed a desire to be traded since the Lakers lost in the NBA Finals this month, and his wife, Shaunie, are putting their home in a gated community in the Beverly Hills area on the market at $7.5 million.

The 32-year-old center has owned his home since 1997, a year after he became a free agent and joined the Lakers with a $120-million contract. The house was built in 1993. The O’Neals just completed an extensive remodel.

The house, on slightly more than an acre, has seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms in about 12,500 square feet. It has a movie theater, where O’Neal can watch “Freddy Got Fingered” (2001) and other films in which he appeared. The theater has a video game area and a wet bar.

The house, on a cul-de-sac with valley and city-to-ocean views, also has a grand entry, a wrought-iron circular staircase, an elevator, an office, built-in fish tanks, a small recording studio for O’Neal the rapper, a gym and a master suite with two bathrooms.

The tennis court was converted into extra parking for O’Neal’s numerous cars and a sports court for basketball practice. It can be turned back into a tennis court at the buyer’s request.

Other signature touches include high ceilings -- to accommodate the basketball giant’s 7-foot-1-inch frame -- and use of the Superman logo on the floor of O’Neal’s sports court, in the glass of his front door and in the flowerbeds near his front lawn. “Superman” is an O’Neal nickname.

Cooler coastal climes on the way

Maria Bello, who costarred as a Las Vegas cocktail waitress in the movie “The Cooler,” and screenwriter Dan McDermott, a former TV executive, have listed their Beverly Hills-area home at just under $2.7 million.

The couple bought the property in 1999. They plan to move closer to the ocean.

Their Country English-style house has four bedrooms and four bathrooms in about 4,200 square feet. The house, on a private ridge with city-to-ocean views, was built in 1932 as a lodge and has been expanded over the decades.

The house has a living room with a fireplace, a family room-kitchen with a fireplace, a den, a fourth bedroom or studio, a sundeck and a pool. There are walls of windows and French doors.

Bello, 37, played feisty Dr. Anna Del Amico on the TV series “ER” and appeared in such movies as “Coyote Ugly” and “Payback”; her performance in “The Cooler” (2003) won her a Golden Globe nomination and helped her get costarring roles in John Sayles’ “Silver City,” due out in September, and “Assault on Precinct 13,” to be released in 2005.

It’s no mystery; it’s a new home

Mark Miano, a mystery novelist and producer for Dateline and NBC News Productions, and his wife, Aparna, have purchased a Los Feliz home for $900,000.

The Spanish-style house, built in 1922, has three bedrooms and 2 3/4 bathrooms in 2,100 square feet. It has a living room with a high barrel ceiling, arched windows and a Batchelder tile fireplace.

Miano wrote the novels “Flesh and Stone,” “The Street Where She Lived” and “Dead of Summer.” He also produces documentaries for the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, A&E; and the History Channel.

Restless for a Malibu move

Tracey Bregman, the Emmy-winning actress who has played Lauren Fenmore on the daytime TV series “The Young and the Restless” for 21 years, and her husband, real estate developer Ron Recht, have purchased a home that is being built in Malibu, and they have listed their home in Beverly Hills.

They bought their new home for close to its asking price of about $4 million. Mediterranean in style, the 6,800-square-foot-plus estate, on 2 acres, has four bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, maid’s quarters and a one-bedroom guesthouse.

The couple’s Beverly Hills home is also Mediterranean in style. It was built in 1933 and was recently renovated. It has three bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms in slightly more than 2,800 square feet. It also has high ceilings, a media center, skylights and a kitchen with a breakfast area.

The home is listed at just under $2 million with Nancy Ross and Laura Barton of DBL Beverly Hills.

The Malibu home was not listed, but Maurice Kozak of Coldwell Banker represented the seller, and Recht represented himself and his wife in buying.

Now it’s time to say goodbye ...

Judy Harriett, an original Mouseketeer now known as Judy Richman, and her husband, Tony, have listed their home in the Fryman Estates area of Studio City at slightly more than $2.3 million.

The former Mickey Mouse Club member, 59, was among the youngsters chosen by Walt Disney to appear on the ABC show from 1955 to 1959. A film actress and recording artist, she is also active in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Among the movies in which she appeared was “Say One for Me” (1959), costarring Bing Crosby and Debbie Reynolds.

Richman and her husband, who is in association management, are selling their home of 32 years to downsize. The couple have another home in Laguna Beach, and their two daughters are grown and living elsewhere.

The Studio City home has four bedrooms in nearly 3,500 square feet. The house, built in 1952 and subsequently renovated, also has a great room with a high ceiling, a granite fireplace and walls of glass overlooking greenery and a pool. The master suite has a spa and a steam shower.
