Play celebrates African culture
“Lost in the Bush,” a new play by Ali Kiani about an 18th century ruler of Akwatia who is faced with a difficult choice when slave traders threaten his kingdom, will be performed at the Ivar Theatre, 1605 N. Ivar Ave. in Hollywood, March 19-21 at 8 p.m.
Presented by the Cal State Northridge departments of theater, music and pan-African studies, and celebrating Yoruba culture, the production features ritual dances, drumming and musical chants. The March 19 performance will benefit L.A.’s nonprofit African Community Resource Center. Tickets for the benefit show are $25 or $50 (with reception). Tickets for March 20-21 are $15.
