Trash Collector Fatally Crushed in Compactor

WHITTIER
A 19-year-old city trash collector was crushed to death Thursday morning in his truck’s compactor, police said.
Josh Mershon of Whittier was reaching into the rear of the city vehicle when a second crew member activated the compactor, police said. The incident occurred about 8:45 a.m. in an alley in the 11000 block of East Broadway.
Cal-OSHA, which investigates industrial accidents, was notified, authorities said.
