From Times Wire Reports
FAIRFIELD
A man being held at the Solano County Jail died just hours after being arrested, authorities said.
Gilbert Tavares, 41, of Vacaville was discovered face down and unconscious on the floor of the holding cell Wednesday morning by fellow inmates. He was unresponsive, said Solano County sheriff’s spokesman Keith Bloomfield.
Corrections officers performed CPR on Tavares until paramedics arrived, Bloomfield said. They took him to NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield, where he was pronounced dead 45 minutes later.
