Ventura’s Meals on Wheels program, which had been facing possible closure because of financial troubles, has received donations this week that will enable it to remain open, its director said Friday.

The program, which serves hot meals to about 150 homebound seniors daily, had been in danger of closing by the end of the month because of rising unemployment insurance and state workers’ compensation costs, director Victoria Herrera said. The program employs seven people.

Donations included $10,000 from Ventura-based Affinity Bank as well as large sums from several individuals, Herrera said.

The program will resume taking applications from new clients, she said.
