More than 1,000 police, firefighters and other emergency workers took part in a simulated attack at New York’s Shea Stadium. The drill was the largest since the Sept. 11 attack.

The four-hour test was staged to evaluate the city’s emergency response system, said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.

As police helicopters growled overhead, the parking lots around Shea filled with fire trucks, ambulances and unmarked police cars amid mock reports that investigators had found two radiological devices in cars.

The test was run by the city Office of Emergency Management along with the federal Department of Homeland Security.
