California’s average pump price fell by 1.5 cents to $2.097 for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline, according to a weekly Energy Department survey.

The price decline was the first since Dec. 29, when costs began a climb that peaked 50.2 cents later at $2.097 a gallon on March 8, as measured by the Energy Information Administration, the Energy Department’s statistical arm.

The price run-up has been blamed on refinery problems and high crude oil costs.

The average price in Los Angeles dropped 2.5 cents in the last week to $2.15 a gallon.

The average U.S. retail price fell 1.4 cents to $1.724 a gallon.
