Oregon Man Ordered to Stand Trial in Oxnard Rape
An Oregon man was ordered Thursday to stand trial on charges of beating and repeatedly raping a 28-year-old Oxnard woman aboard her dry-docked boat last month.
Allen Dale Ramer, 30, has pleaded not guilty to 10 felony sex crimes stemming from an alleged attack Feb. 21 in Oxnard. If convicted, he could face 25 years to life in prison.
During a preliminary hearing Thursday, Oxnard Police Det. Ron Whitney testified that Ramer boarded the victim’s boat and beat and assaulted her for more than hour before tying her up with torn bedsheets and fleeing.
During the hearing, Ramer asked to leave the courtroom and return to his cell. His attorney said Ramer was suicidal and couldn’t listen to more testimony.
The defendant lived in Portland, Ore., but was staying in Oxnard at the time.
Ramer remained jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail. He will be arraigned April 9.
