Bronfman Reportedly Wooing Universal Exec

Warner Music Group is recruiting music executive Julie Greenwald for a top post in its emerging East Coast label structure, sources said.

The move would mark the second time new Warner Music Chairman Edgar Bronfman Jr. has snatched a top executive from rival Universal Music Group, the conglomerate he had helped build. Bronfman had already hired Lyor Cohen, former head of Universal’s Island Def Jam label, as Warner’s domestic chief.

Since Cohen’s exit, Universal had moved to sign Greenwald to a new employment contract. But Greenwald, a longtime Cohen lieutenant who was named president of the Island unit in 2002, resigned from her post Monday, sources said, and is likely to emerge as a senior executive of Warner’s new merged Atlantic-Elektra label.

Another of Cohen’s former colleagues, Kevin Liles, is expected to remain at the Island Def Jam division, sources said.
