Detroit Breaks Century Mark
Manny Legace stopped 34 shots and Detroit scored twice in the final 2 1/2 minutes, lifting the Red Wings to a 3-1 victory over Colorado on Thursday night in Denver.
Pavel Datsyuk clinched the win with 2:32 left when goalie David Aebischer failed to cover a shot by Henrik Zetterberg.
Zetterberg added an empty-net goal to push the Red Wings over the 100-point mark (101) and seven points ahead of the Avalanche in the Western Conference.
The Avalanche started strong, but struggled late for the second straight game. Steve Konowalchuk scored with 31 seconds left, but it was too late to stop their winless streak from reaching five games (0-4-1). They are 2-6-4-1 in their last 13 at home.
Nashville 4, New York Rangers 2 -- The Predators moved into seventh place in the Western Conference with their team-record 35th victory. Nashville, which missed the playoffs its first five seasons, moved past Edmonton. The Predators have 84 points, one more than the Oilers. The win at Madison Square Garden was their second in 10 games (2-4-3-1).
Toronto 3, Boston 0 -- Ed Belfour made 33 saves at Boston to post his eighth shutout of the season, and the Maple Leafs cut the Bruins’ lead in the Northeast Division to one point. Toronto has 96 points with four-regular season games left in the tight Eastern Conference race. Boston, with 97, has five games remaining.
New York Islanders 4, Philadelphia 2 -- At Philadelphia, Wade Dubielewicz came off the bench to stop all 14 shots he faced in his NHL debut. Dubielewicz, who replaced Garth Snow after the first period, stopped two shots during a 1:52 five-on-three advantage in the third period.
Flyer center Jeremy Roenick returned to the lineup after sitting out 19 games because of a broken jaw and a concussion.
Carolina 3, Florida 2 -- Josef Vasicek scored with 11:51 left at Raleigh, N.C., to help the Hurricanes overcome a two-goal deficit for their third win in 27 games when trailing going into the third period. Roberto Luongo made 42 saves for the Panthers, giving him an NHL-record 2,219 on the season. That broke the record of 2,214 set by Toronto’s Felix Potvin in 1996-97.
Ottawa 4, Montreal 0 -- Daniel Alfredsson scored twice and had an assist, and Patrick Lalime made 29 saves at Montreal. The Canadiens failed for the second straight game to earn the point it needs to clinch a playoff spot.
Tampa Bay 2, New Jersey 1 -- Brad Richards scored with 4:58 left to give the Eastern Conference-leading Lightning the victory at Tampa, Fla. Richards’ pass from behind the net appeared to deflect into the net off defenseman Viktor Kozlov.
San Jose 3, Calgary 2 -- Vincent Damphousse banked in a shot off goalie Miikka Kiprusoff’s leg with 23.2 seconds to play at San Jose, giving the Sharks sole possession of second place in the Western Conference.
Minnesota 8, Chicago 2 -- At Chicago, the Wild set a franchise record for goals, breaking the mark of seven goals set in a 7-4 home victory over the Blackhawks on Jan. 7.

Goaltender Marty Turco of the Dallas Stars was suspended for four games by the NHL for high sticking against the Edmonton Oilers. Turco hit the Oilers’ Ryan Smyth in the mouth with his stick during the first period of the Stars’ 4-3 overtime victory Wednesday night.
