A consumer’s guide to the best and worst of sports media and merchandise. Ground rules: If it can be read, heard, observed, viewed, dialed or downloaded, it’s in play here. One exception: No products will be endorsed.

What: Ed Arnold tribute.

Where: KOCE, Channel 50, tonight, 7.

In 1954, at age 14, Ed Arnold got a job at a radio station in his hometown of Texarkana, Ark., replacing the station’s 78-rpm records with 45s. A few months later, he had his own one-hour show, “Rocking With Eddy.” The longtime Los Angeles sportscaster is now the co-host with Ann Pulice of “Real Orange,” a nightly half-hour on Orange County PBS station KOCE, Channel 50.

To commemorate Arnold’s 50 years in broadcasting, KOCE put together a half-hour tribute that first aired a few weeks ago and is being re-aired tonight.

The tribute chronicles Arnold’s career, which included two stints at Channel 5 and an 11-year stint at Channel 7. It also deals with Arnold’s extensive charitable work. He has been heavily involved with the March of Dimes, Special Olympics and many other charities. Delivering tributes on the special are such people as Tom Lasorda, Mike Scioscia, Elgin Baylor, Shaquille O’Neal, Mitch Kupchak, Jeanie Buss, the Rev. Robert Schuller, Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers, and former broadcasting colleagues Stu Nahan, Harold Greene, Stan Chambers and Hal Fishman. Wife Dixie and son Dean also contribute.
