The St. Louis Blues’ five-on-three power-play unit is working just fine.

Keith Tkachuk, Petr Cajanek and Brian Savage each had goals while St. Louis had a two-man advantage in the first period, leading the Blues to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday at Chicago.

“When you have five-on-threes, the odds are you’re going to score,” Savage said. “We’ve got a lot of snipers on this team. We moved the puck around well. We got a lot of shots from the slot.”

St. Louis remained in seventh place in the Western Conference with 87 points, seven more than the 10th-place Kings.

Chicago drew six consecutive penalties in the first period, giving the Blues 10 minutes 48 seconds of power-play time. St. Louis had a man-advantage for 7:26 straight -- including 3:25 when they skated five on three.

Doug Weight and Scott Mellanby had two assists for St. Louis, which also beat the Blackhawks on Saturday night in St. Louis.

Edmonton 4, Phoenix 2 -- Igor Ulanov and Petr Nedved scored third-period goals 29 seconds apart at Edmonton to help the Oilers move two points ahead of Nashville into eighth place in the West. They have earned points in 16 consecutive games.

Only 28 seconds after the Coyotes’ Shane Doan tied the score with his second goal of the game, Ulanov put the Oilers ahead with a shot that beat Brent Johnson at 7:15. Nedved made it 4-2 at 7:44.

New Jersey 3, New York Islanders 2 -- The Devils took another step toward catching the Atlantic Division-leading Philadelphia Flyers.

Patrik Elias had a goal and two assists, and Scott Niedermayer and Brian Gionta also scored for the Devils, who moved to within two points of the Flyers. Martin Brodeur made 12 saves to post his 36th win.

The Islanders failed to reduce their magic number of four points needed to clinch the Eastern Conference’s last playoff spot over Buffalo.

San Jose 2, Dallas 1 -- Wayne Primeau scored 2:57 into overtime at San Jose, enabling the Sharks to reach 100 points for the first time in franchise history with a victory over their closest division rival.

The Sharks moved five points ahead of the Stars in the Pacific Division with three games to play.

The Stars nearly hung on for a tie despite the absence of goalie Marty Turco, who’s halfway through a four-game suspension. Ron Tugnutt, Turco’s seldom-used veteran backup, made 29 saves -- but he was fooled by Primeau’s low shot on the winning goal.

Daniel Alfredsson signed a five-year contract with the Ottawa Senators. He has 31 goals and 78 points, tying him with Marian Hossa for the team lead. This season, the 31-year-old right wing reached 200 goals, 500 points and 600 games played, all with the Senators.
