Dana Point Wildfire Is Hit Hard

Orange County officials, worried that tinder-dry brush in a Dana Point ravine could fuel a raging wildfire, sent 12 engines and 50 firefighters to battle a 2-acre blaze believed to be arson, which threatened 10 homes near Dana Hills High School.

None of the homes, in the 24400 block of Caracas Street had to be evacuated, and no firefighters were reported injured.

Capt. Stephen J. Miller of the Orange County Fire Authority said that more resources than are usually dispatched to a brush fire were sent to the scene and that the blaze was aggressively fought for about an hour before it was brought under control.

Miller said some juveniles were “playing paintball in the area where the fire broke out and were seen running away after the fire was spotted.” He asked that anyone with information about the fire call the fire authority’s arson hotline, (800) 540-8282.
