A Redondo Beach reserve police officer was charged Friday with possession of child pornography, attempting to dissuade a witness and destruction of evidence.

Randy Vincent Jones was arrested after detectives searched his home and allegedly recovered child pornography, Redondo Beach Police Sgt. Phil. Keenan said Friday.

Jones, who was charged with 12 misdemeanor counts, pleaded not guilty and was ordered held in lieu of $215,500 bail.

Warren Kato, a deputy district attorney prosecuting the case, said the pornographic material included videotapes of children aged about 8 to 14.

Police said Jones, a private investigator who has served as a reservist with the South Bay agency since 1998, was arrested after a woman who lives in his household called authorities.

Jones’ expertise in computers and technology as well as his language skills landed him the position of technical reserve officer, Keenan said. Reservists are volunteers who provide support for uniformed officers, Keenan said.
