Boomzeeboom, who had a forgettable race in Kentucky last month, will make his turf debut today at Hollywood Park in the $100,000 Will Rogers, a Grade III stakes at one mile.

The 3-year-old Explosive Red colt made his graded stakes debut in the Lexington on April 17 at Keeneland after two victories at Santa Anita.

In the Lexington, Boomzeeboom was ridden for the first time by Rafael Bejarano -- who was pinch-hitting for regular jockey Corey Nakatani, who was unable to get to Kentucky because of an airport terminal closure in Los Angeles. He never showed any early speed and finished last, 48 lengths behind winner Quintons Gold Rush.

The Florida-bred should be better than that in his first race on the grass. He will be going against Running Free, Toasted, the upset winner of the La Puente in his return to turf on April 10, Stalking Tiger, Mambo Train, Tricky Flash Flood, Laura’s Lucky Boy, and impressive maiden winner Street Theatre.

Race of the day: Lady Tak heads a quality field in the inaugural $100,000 Winning Colors Handicap at Churchill Downs. Shane Sellers will ride Lady Tak in the six-furlong race against the likes of Ebony Breeze and Surf N Sand.

One for the road: My Captain can improve off his latest for trainer Art Sherman and win the $55,000-added Saratoga Handicap at Bay Meadows.
