Weekend box office
When more reliable numbers were tallied Monday, it turns out “Shrek 2” did $3.7 million more than estimated. The adjustment didn’t change the film’s position in the record books (it’s still No. 2 behind “Spider-Man”), but served as an indication of moviegoers’ affection for the big green ogre and his friends.
Meanwhile, a couple of smaller movies made their mark as “Super Size Me” inched into the top 10 in its third weekend with just under $1 million in 148 theaters, and the modest import “A Day Without a Mexican” added more than $554,000 in its second weekend, bringing its total to $1.4 million.
