Price Hikes Imposed at Dollar-Only Shops
From Times Wire Reports
Cuban stores selling everything from cigarettes to refrigerators for U.S. dollars reopened, two weeks after the communist government abruptly shut them to raise prices because of Bush administration measures squeezing the island’s economy.
The government imposed price increases of up to 25% for alcohol, 22% for gas and 15% for electrical goods at the island’s 5,000 dollar-only stores.
Cubans who can get dollars turn to the shops for food and other goods that are difficult to obtain for pesos.
