The Texas Rangers put right-hander Chan Ho Park on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday and recalled right-hander reliever Rosman Garcia from triple-A Oklahoma.

Park, 2-4 with a 5.80 earned-run average in eight starts, has been bothered by a sore lower back. Park’s last start came on May 19, when he was the losing pitcher against Kansas City. He was the scheduled starter on Wednesday against the White Sox, but was scratched after experiencing soreness in his lower back after a workout on Tuesday.

Park started seven times last year because of lower back problems. He finished the season 1-3 with a 7.58 ERA.

Texas also activated right-hander Doug Brocail from the disabled list and assigned him to Oklahoma for a rehabilitation assignment. He had an appendectomy on May 12.

Outfielder Tom Goodwin and right-hander Todd Wellemeyer could be the latest Chicago Cubs to go on the disabled list.

Goodwin has a right groin strain and Wellemeyer strained his right shoulder. Both are expected to return to Chicago today for evaluation by team doctors. Nine Cubs have already spent time on the list this season. The team record for DL trips in one season is 16 in 1970.

The Cleveland Indians purchased the contract of reliever Lou Pote from the Oakland Athletics.

Pote was 1-2 with two saves and a 3.38 ERA for triple-A Sacramento. He has not pitched in the majors since 2002. The 32-year-old right-hander spent the 2003 season in Japan after pitching parts of four seasons for the Angels.

Roberto Alomar has been cleared by doctors to do what Manager Bob Brenly called “light baseball activity” about a month after the Arizona second baseman had surgery for a broken bone in his right hand.

Alomar is in Phoenix for rehabilitation but will join the team for this weekend’s series against the Dodgers.
