Stage Shy Will Try to Keep Streak Going

A full sister to multiple stakes winner Geri, Stage Shy seems destined for success.

Since arriving in the U.S., the 4-year-old daughter of Theatrical has made no mistakes for trainer Neil Drysdale.

Owned by the estate of Robert Sangster, Stage Shy has won both of her races in California impressively and she is the 4-5 morning line favorite to keep her streak alive in today’s seventh race at Hollywood Park.

A winner once in four starts in England, Stage Shy beat four rivals by two lengths in her first race in this country on Jan. 29 at Santa Anita, then returned about two months later to win by four lengths against five opponents.

Only five other fillies and mares will challenge her today and the 3-1 second choice is Cat Alert, who is shipping from Northern California for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Bred in Florida by the late John Franks, Cat Alert has won three of seven on the grass, including two in a row at Churchill Downs and Bay Meadows.

Cozie Advantage, Star Vega, Kirtle and Notting Hill complete the field.

Race of the day: A Lulu Ofa Menifee, who was third in the Nassau County Breeders’ Cup on May 8, drops out of a graded stakes to take on nine other 3-year-old fillies in the $60,000 Terpsichorist at Belmont Park. Javier Castellano will ride A Lulu Ofa Menifee for the Lael Stable and trainer Barclay Tagg in the 1 1/16-mile turf race.

One for the road: Lady Gwen is moved up in class after being claimed for $60,000 by trainer Lisa Lewis and can win from off the pace in a race filled with horses with early speed in the fifth at Belmont. Richard Migliore will ride the Alphabet Soup filly, who won two starts back at the Fair Grounds, in the $75,000 claimer at a mile on turf.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Lasting Tribute, Leprechaun Kid, Academy Spy and American Son in the fifth, Highly Tempting, Hoovergetthekeys and Greenbaypacker in the sixth, Stage Shy in the seventh and Enduring Grace and Bell Of The Year in the eighth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 2/56. Money: Previous day/meet total: $8.20/$300.60. Total money bet: $446.
