Caltrans Gets Single Bid in Contract for Bridge
Only one contractor submitted a bid for the suspension portion of the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, the state Department of Transportation said Wednesday, and what was estimated to be an $800-million job came in at $1.8 billion.

State officials could reject it or ask the bidder for an extension on the two months they now have to investigate why the bid was so high and why other contractors didn’t bid, said Tony Harris, acting director of Caltrans.
