Troops Begin Search for Ex-Guantanamo Inmate
From Times Wire Reports
About 2,000 soldiers, backed by artillery and helicopters, fanned out across Pakistan’s South Waziristan tribal region, searching for foreign militants and a former inmate of the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a senior military commander said.
Lt. Gen. Safdar Hussain said troops were looking for Abdullah Mehsud and his allies, whom he called “foreign miscreants.”
Mehsud is accused of organizing last month’s kidnapping of two Chinese engineers, one of whom was killed in a rescue operation. Mehsud was freed from U.S. custody in March.
