Tokyo novice didn’t miss a treat
I was much impressed with “Tokyo” [Oct. 31], written by Beverly Beyette. I could hardly believe she was a first-time visitor, because she experienced and described so many aspects of Tokyo accurately, ranging from the Imperial Palace to the punk teenagers in Harajuku and from the luxury Park Hyatt to the capsule hotel. (Even I have never stayed at a capsule hotel.)
A characteristic of Tokyo is this diversity and its contradictions. That is what I would like American people to understand.

Terrific! Your descriptions of Tokyo from a first-time visitor matched my own so closely, even down to the places I visited when I first touched down there 30 years ago this month. With probably 30 visits and three-plus years of living there under my belt, I still couldn’t have written a better introduction for a first-timer.
