Shark Is Spotted Near Site of Attack on Surfer
Two surfers spotted a large shark just north of the Pismo Pier, not far from where a surfer was attacked by a great white shark last weekend, authorities said.
Lifeguards and warning signs posted along the beach after Saturday’s shark encounter will remain until at least Monday.
The 10- to 12-foot shark spotted Wednesday matches the description of the great white that bit into the surfboard of a 16-year-old Orcutt boy Saturday afternoon just south of the pier, said city Fire Battalion Chief Mike Harkness.
The surfers told a lifeguard about the shark about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, said Fire Capt. Paul Van Gerwen. Both were in the water when they saw the shark, he said.
