Mission Viejo Gets Invitation
Mission Viejo has been invited to compete in the marquee game of the five-game Emerald City Kickoff Classic next September in Seattle, but the Diablos have not yet accepted. “We’re very close, but there are a couple of loose ends,” football Coach Bob Johnson said.
The Diablos’ opponent would not be Bellevue (Wash.), the team that ended Concord De La Salle’s national-record 151-game winning streak to open this season. Johnson said a different team from Washington would be Mission Viejo’s opponent. Bellevue is ranked No. 10 nationally by Student Sports, and Mission Viejo is No. 2. Another Washington team, Pasco, is No. 19 nationally. Three other Washington schools are ranked in the Student Sports West regional top 20: No. 13 Olympia Capital, No. 16 Puyallup and No. 20 Lacey Timberline.
