Deeheiress Tries to Return to Winner’s Circle

Deeheiress, the beaten favorite in the Golden State Derby on Aug. 14, is among 12 3-year-olds competing in two trials for the Bayer Legend California Regional Challenge.

Trained by Donna McArthur for owner Robert Gentry, Deeheiress had won three of her last four starts before finishing fifth at 19-10 odds in the Golden State. The 3-year-old Mr. Jess Perry filly is running in the first of the 400-yard trials and will be ridden by Sam Thompson. The final will be on Sept. 18.

Shots in the dark: Synner Or Saint could fire fresh for trainer Paul Price in the fifth. Billy Bob Dave shortens up in the seventh.
