Olympic wrestling silver medalist Sara McMann has been charged with careless driving causing death following a crash that killed her boyfriend, the Colorado State Patrol said Saturday.

Steven Blackford, 28, a three-time NCAA All-American wrestler at Arizona State, died Friday when the Jeep they were in rolled off the shoulder of Interstate 76 in northeastern Colorado, the State Patrol said.

Both were ejected. Blackford and McMann, who was driving, were not wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said.

McMann, 23, of Lock Haven, Pa., was hospitalized for moderate injuries but had been released by Saturday afternoon, the State Patrol said.

Investigators were looking into whether speed led to the crash about 10 miles east of Brush, about 90 miles northeast of Denver.

McMann won silver at the Athens Olympics in the 139-pound class.

The couple had been traveling from the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs to Washington, D.C., where Blackford was attending the Columbus Law School at Catholic University.
