Camo cuddles

To bag wary game, hunters use every legal aid available, including camouflage. If the camo choices look dizzying, it’s by design. Contrasting hues and shapes create visual confusion, breaking up the outline of the human form. The trick is picking the environmentally correct color, and Ducks Unlimited’s “adorable, collectible” Camo Critters, which sell for about $10 each, illustrate the range of possibilities: Green for hunting in lush vegetation, green-brown for scrub, gray-brown for woods, yellow-brown-fawn for marshes (also works great in standing or cut corn, wheat or other crops, as well as in grasslands), tan-white for desert and so on. Easy enough, it seems, unless you’re a turkey hunter who leans against a grayish tree trunk while sitting in wait on a forest floor covered in reddish pine duff. Then what?
