Sooners Take the Easy Rout

Jason White threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns, Antonio Perkins tied the NCAA record with his eighth career punt return for a score and No. 2 Oklahoma cruised to a 63-13 victory over Houston (0-2) on Saturday night at Norman, Okla.

White showed his improved mobility by evading the pass rush and finding receivers while on the run. He completed 14 of 18 passes without an interception.

The Heisman Trophy winner hit Brandon Jones in stride for a 40-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. White also found Travis Wilson in the back of the end zone for a seven-yard touchdown. White played the Sooners’ first drive of the second half before being replaced by freshman Tommy Grady.

Perkins put Oklahoma (2-0) ahead, 42-7, with his record-tying return. After fielding Justin Laird’s line-drive punt, Perkins headed up the right side of the field, shed two tacklers at the 25 and cut across the field on his way to a 41-yard return.

Perkins tied Texas Tech’s Wes Welker for the NCAA career punt return mark.

New Mexico 27, Texas Tech 24 -- Wes Zunker kicked a 43-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Lobos (1-1) to their first victory over the Red Raiders (1-1) in 20 years at Albuquerque, N.M.

Oklahoma State 38, Tulsa 21 -- Vernand Morency rushed for 184 yards and Donovan Woods threw his first touchdown pass to lead the Cowboys (2-0) past the Golden Hurricane (0-2) at Stillwater, Okla.

Kansas 63, Toledo 14 -- Adam Barmann threw four touchdown passes in a 49-point first half as the Jayhawks (2-0) routed the Rockets (0-2) at Lawrence, Kan.

Texas A&M; 31, Wyoming 0 -- Reggie McNeal threw for 298 yards, including an 84-yard touchdown to freshman Kerry Franks, and ran for another score to lead the Aggies (1-1) to victory at College Station, Texas.

Texas A&M; won its 17th consecutive home opener in its first shutout since a 41-0 victory over Baylor in 2002. Wyoming is 1-1.

Baylor 24, Texas State 17 -- Junior college transfer Dane King threw two touchdown passes and the defense produced another score as the Bears (1-1) held off the Division I-AA Bobcats (1-1) at Waco, Texas.
