Former pro football quarterback Todd Marinovich, 35, is being held without bail on an alleged probation violation after his arrest on suspicion of drug possession, resisting arrest and syringe possession.

A USC star who was a first-round draft pick for the Los Angeles Raiders, Marinovich is on probation for a 2001 conviction for felony heroin possession.

A Mission Viejo native, Marinovich was arrested Aug. 28 near McFadden Avenue and 22nd Street in Newport Beach when officers saw him skateboarding in a prohibited area, said Sgt. Mark Hamilton. When the officers tried to speak with Marinovich, he ran, Hamilton said. When caught, he was searched and police allegedly found methamphetamine and three syringes.
