REDWOOD CITY

The lead detective assigned to investigate Laci Peterson’s disappearance had “about 41 reasons” why police thought her body was in San Francisco Bay, he testified Tuesday.

Modesto Police Detective Craig Grogan quickly ticked off the list, providing jurors the first detailed narrative of the murder case in the 17-week trial. Grogan suggested that police had more than enough reason to suspect Scott Peterson.

Prosecutors allege that Peterson killed his wife, who was eight months pregnant, on or about Dec. 24, 2002, then dumped her body into the bay. Defense lawyers maintain that someone else abducted and killed Laci.
