Keane Charged in Alleged Confrontation

Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane was charged with assault and criminal damage Tuesday over an alleged confrontation with a 16-year-old boy.

Manchester police said Keane got into the confrontation with the teenager while walking his dog earlier this month at an area golf course.

The Irish midfielder was ordered to appear before a judge Thursday to answer the charges.

Starting forwards Carlos Ruiz and Jovan Kirovski are expected back in the Galaxy lineup Saturday night at San Jose after sitting out two games each because of injuries.

Ruiz strained his right hamstring in Guatemala’s 2-1 victory over Costa Rica in a FIFA World Cup qualifier Sept. 8. Kirovski was diagnosed with tendinitis in his right knee after practice Sept. 10.

Dynamo Kiev was given a 3-0 forfeit victory over AS Roma by European soccer’s governing body, which also ordered the Italian team to play two home games in an empty stadium because a referee was hurt by an object thrown from the stands during a Champions League game.

David Beckham scored on a 61st-minute free kick as Real Madrid edged Osasuna, 1-0, to move into first place in the Spanish league and give new Coach Mariano Garcia Remon a winning start. The victory came two days after Jose Antonio Camacho resigned as coach.

Roy Makaay scored in injury time to give Bayern Munich a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over third-division Osnabrueck in the second round of the German Cup.

Claudio Pizarro, the Peruvian striker playing his second match following a long recovery from a cracked skull in July, had two goals for Bayern.

Joe Enochs, a Northern California native, scored a goal for Osnabrueck.
