Classic tastes, yet of recent vintage

Though they barely look old enough to be employees, brothers Cesar and Jonathan Tejeda own Sunset Bazaar, a typically funky Silver Lake boutique. The original owner hired Cesar several years ago after meeting his mother, who, at the time, worked in a garment shop in the basement. Cesar, 27, turned out to be a quick study. He fell in love with the business and eventually took over the shop.

The original part of the store features a mix of Deco, Nouveau and late Victorian furniture, but it’s the new addition that’s more fun. Three months ago, the Tejedas expanded into an adjacent vacant space that now features an eclectic mix of contemporary furnishings. Jonathan, 20, and Cesar drop in at three to four auctions each week and regularly visit estate sales and flea markets to keep the place filled.

Crowded and a little chaotic, the store is home to an ever-changing collection of Danish Modern, including dressers, credenzas, dining tables and chairs, and Space Age light fixtures, as well as Murano glass and Bauer china. Best of all, everything is at “Silver Lake prices,” as the Tejedas’ business card boasts. And that’s no exaggeration.
