Silver Lake fest nabs Russell film
From a Times staff writer
“Soldier’s Pay,” David O. Russell’s 35-minute antiwar documentary that Warner Bros. blocked from being included on the DVD re-release of his 1999 film “Three Kings,” will be shown Thursday on the closing night of the Silver Lake Film Festival.
The film, in which Russell interviews American soldiers about the war in Iraq, was deemed by Warner Bros. to be too political to release in an election year.
It will be included on the DVD of “Uncovered: The War on Iraq,” due for release in October from the independent Cinema Libre Studio.
