Former Barstow Fire Official Fined
A former official with the Barstow fire district pleaded no contest Thursday to charges that she misused her position when the district purchased about $2,400 in stacking chairs from her stationery store, authorities said.
Sandra Jean Baca, 62, resigned in July 2003 from her post on the five-member Barstow Fire Protection District Board for selling 60 chairs from her store to the district. A competing stationery store complained to San Bernardino County district attorney office’s Public Integrity Unit, which this week charged Baca with a misdemeanor.
Baca was fined $500, and she paid $425, her profit from the sale, to the fire district during a hearing at Superior Court in Barstow. She is barred from running for office or lobbying for four years.
