Redoing that split-level
Thinking of remodeling your split-level style home? The Web version of this book is a good place to start. The renovation tips are based largely on comments and ideas from homeowners invited by the authors in 2002 to share what they liked, disliked and wanted to change in their homes.
Although the project originally began with 15 communities in the Rapid City, Minn., area and Robert Gerloff Residential Architects, the website drew a tremendous response from across the country.
The result was this plan-book that went online in late December. It identifies “split” styles and gives ideas for changing facades and floor plans and adding fireplaces, porches and other amenities. The homes pictured are all from the Midwest, but the ideas are useful for a home anywhere. The free download is 35 pages.
